An Open-Source Print Engine + Japan Proliferation Wedge

From a Nouner in Tokyo: I hold Noun 312 and I build shipping products for a living. I built the print engine first, then wrote this prop — not the other way around. Here is my own Noun on the tee. ⌐◨-◨
- What: open-source the "any Noun ID → pixel-perfect physical print" pipeline as CC0 public-goods tooling any Nouner can fork, plus a 90-day Japan/Asia proliferation campaign (free tees for Nouners, a Tokyo pop-up activation).
- How much: 5 ETH, released in 3 milestone tranches. Net cost trends lower — 10% of ALL MU Noun-apparel sales is returned to the Nouns treasury, on-chain.
- What Nouns gets: noggles on bodies in Tokyo (a near-zero-presence market), reusable open-source merch infrastructure for the whole community, and a transparent on-chain dashboard. Every deliverable is independently verifiable.
Why this proliferates the meme
- A public good, not a private store. Today, any builder who wants to put a Noun on a tee has to rebuild upscaling, print-file generation, mockup preview, and fulfillment plumbing from scratch. We will open-source the entire Noun-ID → print pipeline under CC0 — the same license as Nouns art itself. After this prop, any Nouner can self-host "wear your Noun" with no dependency on MU. That is proliferation infrastructure the DAO owns forever.
- Japan is a Nouns gap. Nouns' Japan footprint is a handful of event touchpoints (Prop 559 — EDCON 2024 Tokyo; DAO Tokyo). There is no standing way for someone in Tokyo to walk away wearing a Noun. MU is a Tokyo-based, fully operational apparel engine with global Printful fulfillment already live. We are the cheapest possible wedge into Asia.
- Bodies > banners. The deliverable is physical Nouns in the wild — free tees on Nouners and on Tokyo crowds, each a CC0 Noun with a QR back to nouns.wtf. Cheap, measurable, exactly the "spread the meme" mandate.
What already works — live & verifiable today
This is not a deck. The product ships now:
- Live store: wearmu.com/nouns — enter any Noun ID, pixel-perfect upscale (no smoothing), tee ¥4,900 / hoodie ¥8,800, classic Square or background-knocked-out Floating style.
- Crypto rails live: pay in USDC / SOL / ETH or card. Bulk orders 1–50.
- Real print preview: the printer (Printful) generates the actual on-body mockup before you buy.
- Global fulfillment: printed & shipped worldwide — already operating.
- Treasury pledge is wired to the canonical Nouns treasury 0x0BC3807Ec262cB779b38D65b38158acC3bfedE10. Honest status: wired but not yet operational — zero settlements so far (see Risks). Tranche 1 makes it real and audited.
Deliverables & milestones — 90 days, tranche-gated
Each milestone is a tranche. Each is independently verifiable by anyone, on-chain or by URL. Unmet milestone = unreleased tranche.
Tranche 1 — Day 0 → 30 · 2.0 ETH · "Open-source the engine"
- Public CC0 GitHub repo: Noun-ID → upscale → print-file → mockup pipeline, docs + one-command self-host (verify: repo URL, CC0 LICENSE)
- First real 10%-of-sales settlement tx to the Nouns treasury, executed and linked (verify: Etherscan tx)
- Public transparency dashboard: cumulative ETH returned, units printed, Noun IDs used (verify: live URL matches on-chain)
Tranche 2 — Day 30 → 60 · 1.5 ETH · "Free tees to Nouners + creators"
- 200 free Noun tees shipped — priority to Nouns holders + Asia-region Nounish creators; claim flow capped at one per address (verify: public claim ledger + dashboard)
- Embed widget so any Nounish site can drop a "wear this Noun" button (verify: live on ≥3 third-party sites)
Tranche 3 — Day 60 → 90 · 1.5 ETH · "Tokyo activation"
- Tokyo pop-up co-located with a Nounish / web3 meetup: on-the-spot Noun printing, free + paid units (verify: recap post + photos + dashboard)
- Final 90-day report: ETH returned, Nouns printed, geographic spread, repo forks — all on-chain links (verify: report URL)

Intentionally an order of magnitude below prior Nouns fashion funding (the Danit Peleg 3D-printed collection was funded at ~$140k) — small-builder-grant territory. Small enough that sponsorship is easy; the DAO's downside is trivial.

Honest risks — radical transparency
We'd rather you reject us for the truth than fund us for a pitch.
MU is a small brand. Sales to date are tiny. Lifetime MU revenue is ~¥195,900 (~$1.3k): 36 orders, 19 units shipped, 688 AI designs generated, ~¥83,800 from real third-party customers. The 10% treasury return is small today — the value is the open-source engine and the proliferation, not near-term ETH back.
The treasury pledge is not yet operational. Zero settlements have happened. Tranche 1 explicitly fixes this with a first real on-chain settlement tx.
Japan crypto/tax compliance for accepting USDC/SOL/ETH and transferring ETH has jurisdictional nuance; we will document our compliance approach in the repo.
Execution risk is bounded by milestones — unmet milestone = unreleased tranche.

- Build in public regardless — the open-source engine ships either way; the grant makes the proliferation campaign and the Japan wedge possible.
